(The latest!)

Praise God for finishing these buildings in less than one month. That is unheard of, and the classrooms are being called "miracle buildings." Here, see the before and after!!

The team

Fourteen strangers shook hands and exchanged first names at the JFK airport just a few hours prior to takeoff. By the end of the two weeks, we were closer than family, and we still write and call each other frequently

London layover

Eight hours in London after 30+ hours with no sleep.... I lasted pretty well until we sat down for tea, and I fell asleep in the cafe. The bloke in that one photo is my friend Jon, whom I met while on student exchange in Australia. He lives near London and came up to say hi!

Living quarters

We lived in a house built for the teachers in the community. The teachers moved in shortly after we left. In order: the team in front of the house, the sitting room, the room where I stayed, shower, toilet, and view from the bedroom.

The future

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'" Psalm 19:14

Everyday life in Nyabikiri

Water and food

It has been said that most Americans never really let themselves get hungry. We actually have never felt what REAL hunger is. We don't have to. But for the people of Nyabikiri, hunger is not a stranger. The last photo shows two team members serving lunch to schoolchildren -- a starchy substance (later topped with a bean broth) provided by the UN and often a child's only meal for the day. The other photos show the task of collecting water from the well for use at home. One morning, I helped a young girl (no older than nine, I'm sure) carry a water jug to her home. It was a long walk, and the water was surprisingly heavy. This water, which also should be boiled before use, is so far removed from our water... running from a no-pump tap, constant, clean, and even sometimes heated!

Church

On Sunday, we worshipped with membrs of a pentecostal church and afterward ate lunch with the pastor and staff.
